Throwback Thursday: Rishi Kapoor’s throwback reference

Namaste all!

I know it has been a while, but I have been saving this one for a while, and really an excellent choice for a Throwback Thursday song.

Many of you (whether you are willing to admit to it or not) saw 2012’s Student of the Year, with its all breakout lead cast of Alia Bhatt, Siddarth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan.  Rishi Kapoor plays a pivotal role as the lovable (and possibly gay?) principal of the prestigious high school with its contentious “Student of the Year” competition for which the movie is named.

One of the more popular songs from the movie is “Radha”, where Alia Bhatt’s character busts out of her shell (in the teeniest choli I have ever seen) and proves to the all the male attendees that she is in fact the hottest girl there. It is a ridiculously catchy song and one I listen to frequently.

But some of you might have been wondering how about the bizarre musical interlude (look at about 3:32) in the movie version of the song where Rishi Kapoor starts drumming like the awesome boss he is. It turns out that he is in fact referencing an earlier dance hit of is, from the movie Sargam.

Kind of cool huh?  Can you recommend any other hit songs that reference even older hits?
